Mel, from SandiLake Clothing, is one of the amazing printers who is regularly printing on Alllmade. Her passion for making the print industry better is outstanding. Check out her story below.
1) How did you get started in printing?
Back in 2014 I started a kid's clothing brand, and right from the beginning I knew we should print the tees ourselves. Little did I know that screen printing would soon become a trade that I love and am incredibly passionate about. Shirts can carry a message unlike any other piece of clothing. They can be powerful, impactful, or plain and basic. That's what I have loved about printing from day one.
2) How did you hear about Allmade and why did you get involved?
Ryan from Ryonet approached me early on when starting this venture. I believe his wife had heard of my clothing line, and we had been ordering from Ryonet for a few years. He approached me with a beautiful and personal story of an encounter he had in Haiti with one of the orphans, and it honestly just touched my heart. I knew from minute one I had to be a part of whatever he was going to try to do. His story changed me in that moment and I was all in.
3) What was the Haiti trip like?
Haiti was incredible. It has a beauty unlike anything I had seen before. Most people think of a 3rd world country and think of dirty, impoverish, unclean water, etc. And while the unclean water part is accurate, Haitians are hardworking, creative, and incredibly kind people. I'm proud to be a small part of helping provide jobs that can change lives of not just the hired employee, but that entire family.
4) What is it like to print on Allmade?
The best part about Allmade is that each tee was created by screen printers. We spent months perfecting the fabric, and printability of each shirt. There isn't a tee out there that prints better, especially for children's tees. They are soft, but not clingy, and a GREAT fit.
5) What kind of customers do you find are interested in Allmade?
My customers LOVE our tees, and can't get over the fact that each one is made from recycled water bottles. Not only that, but quite a few moms out there are searching for modal in tees due to allergies to rayon. We have SO many factors that make these tees BETTER. From the minute the cotton starts growing, we know where our tees have been. They provide jobs in the United States AND Haiti, and I can't be more proud to print on Allmade Apparel.
